As an elder millennial, I grew up in the greatest gaming generation: SNES, PS1/2, Sega Genesis, Gameboy and Gameboy Advance, etc. Sadly, most of these devices are no-longer functional and they require old, old of date formats like cartridges and CDs to play. Even worse, they often don’t even have HDMI to you can connect them to TVs newer than 2002. This system takes all the pain out of retro gaming by providing access to thousands of games over a dozen systems in a supremely portable form-factor.
So the screen on the device is a bit small, but it has to be to be to make it portable. Also, since most games were built for a smaller screen this isn’t really a problem. It’s also backlit so you can play at night without issues at all. It even has a stylish case that’s translucent – meaning you can see the internals which harkens back to the old GBA translucent-purple color and the see-through electronics of the 90s. The sound is passable, but using headphones is definitely a good idea as most games really need that audio immersion to be enjoyed.
As for battery life, I was able to get through 7 of the 8 robot masters in Megaman 5, which is a great feat, but also shows the staying power of the battery (about ~6 hours) which his more than enough time until you need to top it off again. Overall, if you need something to whip out during a commute to during a flight, you can’t go wrong with this little device!

It came with the old version of retrofw, the handheld doesn’t even boot, clearly they don’t check them before they send them. I had to take 8 hrs of my day trying to figure out which version of retrofw works. I had to take it apart down to the motherboard to find out the version. The mobo is retro game plus 1.4. They never replied to my messages. Don’t buy and definitely don’t buy from them.

Not a USB-C this is a Mini-USB port. Thumb stick is a bit stiff. Lots of stuff on there but the games are not alphabetical order. It’s labeled like– 001 Rockman, 002 Booger so you literally have to go through all of it to see what games you a have and remember the numbers.
Some is in Chinese when you launch the MP3 player so you have no idea if you’re saving, repeating, playing or deleting the song.

My son has been enjoying this handheld game. It’s good for long rides in the car as we love to travel. The battery life is a great and it’s durable.

If you are not familiar with Amazon Vine, it is basically Amazon trading free* products for honest reviews. You see a lot of Vine reviews that are cookie cutter and based on templates. I aim to make my reviews honest and non-cookie cutter (other than this intro and disclaimer).
* These items are not actually free as Vine members pay income tax on the items they receive. Therefore, I will never order something from Vine unless I actually intend to use it. I think this is important for readers to understand because it means I will never order an item just to provide a fake five star review to a company. If I review something as good, it means I actually enjoyed using it or it fills its intended purpose correctly. Items that don’t meet my expectations will be reviewed accordingly.
Why I ordered this item: My kid is interested in games but I don’t want to let her use my Odin since she’s hard on stuff. I got her this to let her beat it up and play some of the same games I used to play when I was a kid.
Likes:
* There are a ton of games from old systems on here. I primarily bought this for her to play SNES games because those are my favs. There are a variety of other old systems you can boot up too.
* The screen punches above its weight class. It’s very nice and bright.
* Battery life is around five hours which is plenty for us. We have a battery so we can charge it on the go.
* There is a lot of functionality built into a small package with this emulator.
No likes:
* Build quality is average. This is made of plastic, but it feels cheaper than other emulators I have owned.
* The game naming convention is non-existent. They should be alphabetical, but they are not. You can resolve this by downloading a library of emulator games from the internet and loading it onto an SD card. It is very hard to find games, which I would say affects the ease of use.
* The description says USB-C but it’s actually mini USB. Mini USB?? In the year 2025?? Crazy!
Would I pay full price for this product: No
Final thoughts: It’s only $30, but I would rather pay more for something with modern features like USB-C and better game names.
