One of the best side scrollers I’ve played. Graphics are great and puzzles are fun. Nice mix of hunt, puzzles, and fighting.

Dash into a stylish and thrilling action-adventure platformer set in a mythological Persian world where the boundaries of time and space are yours to manipulate. Play as Sargon and evolve from sword-wielding prodigy to extraordinary legend as you master acrobatic combat and unlock new Time Powers and unique super abilities.

This is a fantastic game. I’d give it 5 stars once they release an update for the Switch 2.

  4. Tituki

I’ll preface this by saying I actually played the game. I won’t undermine the entire efforts of the dev team behind this game based on a woefully mis-interpreted interview either.

Because what is here is a much needed reboot of the Prince of Persia franchise, and one of the best Metroidvanias I’ve played since Hollow Knight. Controlling Sargon feels smooth as hell, from dashing around traps and puzzles, to pulling off ground and air combos – they nailed the “smoothness” in control to make navigating the massive map enjoyable and rarely frustrating.

Puzzles are engaging – there was a few I was stumped on for most of the game and kept coming back to. This was easy thanks to the memory capture, which allows you to essentially take a screenshot and post it on the map, making it so you aren’t constantly running back to a point on the map to remember why you hadn’t explored an area yet.

Additional rapid fire pros: The abilities/power ups are fun to use and unique, and make backtracking more engaging. Bosses are great set pieces and fun to beat. Animations look great, especially when parrying bosses. Areas on the map vary and offer differing puzzle types that make it refreshing to explore.

With that said, story takes a backseat here and can be hard to follow. I don’t know if it’s because I explored a ton, but it felt like 4+ hours at a time would go by without any story progressing. Having more side quests would have been nice to fill in the gap here. Also, the amulet system could’ve used more refinement. It was ok, but the potential for more is there.

I’d probably give this game a 4.5/5 realistically, but am rounding to 5. It’s a great Metroidvania with a lot of meat to it. It also did not retail at full standard price for the standard edition. Outside of there being a deluxe edition, there are ZERO microtransactions. You’re getting a full game here out of the box. If you’re on the fence then I can recommend it whole heartedly. If not, just wait a month for the inevitable ubisoft sale.

  5. Eris the goddess of discord

Have been a fan of the sands of time game since it’s creators first released it and subsequently was very smitten with the prince of Persia trilogy. Hearing about this game I was skeptical honestly as I have never really liked Metroid type games where you have to do a lot of backtracking.

After playing the demo I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with this game’s depth design gameplay and overall mechanics, and decided to pre-order it. After receiving it I played for over 7 hours and while it definitely dose not hold your hand and can be extremely difficult and frustrating at times ( as I’m not the best at precision platformers) the game itself is truly a rare gem. The amount of detail depth and complexity involved in the story and it’s substantial lore and background is impressive. The gameplay mechanics are smooth enough to not notice any major issues, and the progression is mostly smooth enough that you won’t have to many rage issuess ( save for a few puzzles that I had to look up to solve)
Plays entirely in handheld on my switch oled and only experienced 2 crashes and game shutdowns ( fortunately not losing my progress) only real problems I have with the game is I can’t manually save my progress! However the game seems to do a decent amount of auto saving so it’s probably only a minor thing.
I would recommend this game it’s fun entertaining and has decent replay value. I would suggest trying the demo first and watch some gameplay videos online if your unsure however

    Loved it, metroid style

  11. Gilmário T.

Muito bem embalado, sem rasuras e um ótimo game !!

  12. Lyndsay

My husband loved this game. I’m not a big gamer in general, and not at all big on platforming games, but watching my husband play made me want to play it, too. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it! The movement and jumping mechanics are so fun and satisfying. The skill tree isn’t overwhelming. The combats are challenging but doable.

If you’re a fan of the metroidvania genre of games, you will probably love this. This is an excellent game, and runs fantastic on the aging Switch console. Solid 60fps and looks great docked or in handheld mode. It’s also one of the longest games I’ve played in this genre, being a little over 20-25 hours just for the main story, and a decent bit longer, depending on how much of a completionist you are. The controls are tight and very responsive, which is great because the combat is pretty deep and involved. Everything is fast and fluid making for a great gameplay experience.
It can be difficult at times, but there are so many menu options, I don’t think anybody will have an issue finding their preferred difficulty level. I absolutely recommend this to anyone interested in the Prince of Persia brand or just fans of the genre. It’s an excellent game.
