I’m always looking for a great solution to keep my device charged for travel, but not in a million years did I expect to come across something so fun!
I have more than a few power banks that have built-in wireless charging. They’re useful for traveling as you don’t need to dig out the appropriate cable- just connect it to whatever MagSafe-compatible phone or case that you have, and just keep doing what you’re doing.
The problem is most wireless chargers are large for their capacity, and only have one function: charge whatever is wireless and if you’re lucky it’ll have an extra port or two for whatever else you need to charge.
Well, this Kastar charger breaks the mold. Actually, no, it completely shatters it. It’s a capable charger on its own, featuring a cool see-through case and LED lights to add a great effect. Flip it over, though, and your mind is blown! It’s a complete gaming console with 500 games! Okay, the vast majority of them are weird mashup games (Mortal Kombat 4 with NES graphics?! No, that doesn’t really exist but yet it’s here!), but there are a lot of classics such as Super Mario Brothers 1-3, Donkey Kong, etc. It’s far more than enough to pass the time waiting for your flight to board as you ensure your phone has enough charge to get to your destination. My larger-capacity wireless charger was quickly dismissed from my travel bag to make room for this. Yes, it’s only half the capacity but it’s infinitely more fun!

This Kastar handheld video game console is an impressive mashup.
Overall, the built quality of the device is excellent. It has that satisfying brick-like heft, and the surface of the device feels solid with a metal and glassy frame. All the controls have a well-made feel. The device is chargeable via a USB-C port (thank you) and has a mini SD card slot. The device doesn’t appear to have any IP rating for moisture or dust protection.
The video game console is intuitive to use; the screen is small, but not too small, and the color and resolution are good enough for most of the included video games. The controls are responsive and work well-playing games. There are a lot of vintage video games to choose from, and although many are legit, you won’t find many of the better-known brand names, and there are more than a few copycats of certain popular video games that shall remain nameless.
This device also acts as a 5000mAh rechargeable battery with a wireless charger on the back. The back of the device looks terrific, with the exposed electronics behind a clear but solid-feeling window. There are also LED lights on this side of the device that you can turn on from the top, adding a flashlight feature.
Overall, I was impressed with how well this device was built, its versatility, and its performance, all at a competitive price.
This would make a great gadget gift and an excellent addition to travel accessories, a bugout bag, backpack, emergency kit, and everyday carry.
